“When I played my first Jazz concert in Dallas, musicians asked why I played so many “church” chords. Then I played my first church service and the choir members asked why I played so many “Jazz” chords. This enigma caused me to think that I must be some kind of hybrid and I became intentional about developing my own medium; one that the listener could hear and feel. Now, the music has three levels of mutation: I play the song. Then, I do an interpolation of the song. Finally, I attempt to show you how I feel about the song. That is the moment when the listener has become fully engaged and immersed in the energy of the moment. One night, in Memphis, I did this so well that it caused Alex Bugnon to come out of his dressing room to see who was playing.” “I got Alex’s attention.” That’s one of the highlights of my career. After having produced, recorded and performed with many great artist, I am presenting my own works along with arrangements of great songs that we all recognize. Further still, I am scaling down to trios and quartet recordings so there is little to hide behind with overdubs and extra tracks. Now, I have to trust my ability to carry the music and convey it with a pure heart and honest intentions. Please get on the mailing list for updated news and support the music as it allows me to continue to bring innovations to market. From Ericwillismusic.com
